Why does skin turn brown?

The change of skin colour during sunbathing is simply a natural defence reaction. This is how the body defends itself against sunburn and excessive exposure to harmful UV radiation. Skin is a very complex organ. Out of all the cells used to form its structures, melanocytes ought to be subjected to special scrutiny.
